Reviews:
"The Portuguese improvised music scene has become unavoidable over the years for its experimental chamber music and its multiple projects bringing together a huge pool of musicians of varying geometry with a deep sense of the collective. Ernesto Rodrigues is undoubtedly one of its most remarkable catalysts, both in terms of the number and diversity of the groups in which he participates and the systematic publication of quality recordings via his label Creative Sources. In addition to Ernesto on viola and crackle box, his usual collaborators include Nuno Torres on alto sax, Bruno Parrinha on bass clarinet, João Madeira on double bass, Carlos Santos on modular synth and José Oliveira on percussion. Luisa Gonçalves and Flak complete the Suspensão ensemble on piano and electric guitar respectively. This Impromptu sounds like a very coherent work of great sonic diversity. The interweaving of the individual interventions works wonderfully, each one standing out for a short moment from the whole or acting as a filigree. Dynamics and an egalitarian sense of the collective are the watchwords of the Suspensão ensemble. Miasmas, buzzes, stray notes, isolated interventions, vibrations, hesitations, bow wriggles, beaks, fragile glissandi or persistent rustles, percussive micro-strokes, all these figures of speech and spontaneous sounds create a framework, a moving patchwork where sudden directions, changes of course or a complete renewal of the sound atmosphere are apparent. An idea from the viola leads to guitar friction, squeaks generate piano clusters that fade into a light percussive crash or electronic vibration. As the unique improvisation with the improbable title progresses, the lighting and the perspective change as if we were entering another universe. By soliciting a myriad of possible sounds within their instrumentarium, the eight improvisers of Suspensão create a delicate and unquenchable momentum while focusing our listening. Thirty-five minutes that escape like a dream. A wonderful moment of eminently collective improvised music." Jean - Michel Van Schouwburg,
